EMERITUS took part in CERIS FCT WORKSHOP on Europol’s new role in Horizon Europe

Europol

EMERITUS project’s representatives from Zabala Innovation attended a CERIS Workshop on the new role of Europol in Horizon Europe.

On 14th March 2023, EMERITUS project’s representatives from Zabala Innovation took part in the workshop organised by CERIS, DG HOME’s Community for European Research and Innovation for Security, and Europol on the new role of Europol itself within Horizon Europe framework.

On 28th June 2022, key amendments to the Europol Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/794) entered into force, introducing a number of changes to this legal act. In a general effort to strengthen the position of Europol’s capacity to support EU Member States in combating serious and organised crime and terrorism, the mandate of Europol has also been expanded with its support to the European Commission in identifying key research themes. With Europol’s strengthened mandate, the agency will no longer participate as a beneficiary in projects. During this transition phase, the new modus operandi has been presented during a dedicated workshop to FCT project implementers and stakeholders.

In this framework, collaborations can still be launched with ongoing projects by submitting a formal request to the Innovation hub – law enforcement community. EMERITUS is working on the preparation of such a request to establish fruitful collaborations with Europol in line with mutual missions and goals.
